Lonely Planet Review
An extremely well-run, well-maintained newcomer on the hostel scene, the Saga impresses with its fresh colours (sunflower yellow and blue), spotlessly clean rooms and common areas, its community spirit, excellent staff, and fantastic location down a historic hutong (narrow alley). Both the dorm and the very affordable private rooms are recommended.
To get a sense of the history of the neighbourhood, head up to the huge open rooftop common area. Directly below is a Qing dynasty courtyard. That the young Saga manager appreciates the view tells you a lot about the character of this hostel (most Beijing youth just like modern western-style buildings). Western guests (who make up the bulk of the clientele) will feel that most things are run to their liking. They will also find that this is a good place to make new friends. Mixed dorm rooms are a decent size and include private lockers. Doubles and triples have wood floors and TVs, and if they don't have a private bath, they share with only one other room. Laundry service, kitchen facilities, small restaurant, common room snack stand, bike rental, Internet and tour bookings round out the hostel amenities. Cheap local restaurants abound.
