Lonely Planet Review
This place is obviously designed for the middle-management business traveller, and has pretty full range of facilities for such, but it's also a good option for the casual visitor. Rooms are bright, clean, well maintained and simply furnished. Higher floors even have wide-open city views.
A major renovation was completed on the Chongwenmen in 2004, and it shows. The place has a little glitz now - like a ballroom from the 70s - but new is new, and a mid-range in Beijing without scuffs and dirty carpeting is to be respected. Bellhops add a slight touch of gentility to the place, as do fresh flowers in the rooms. The decent restaurant and bar options mean you don't have to scoot out the front door as soon as you leave your room. All in all, you'll find this place a clear step up from a budget hotel. One unbeatable feature is the location just metres from the BRT. Tiananmen Square is one stop to the west and the train station one to the east.
