Lonely Planet Review
Here's one for the poet, historian and movie buff. The Cui Ming's charming east-west design hails from the 30s, and once set the stage for cease-fire negotiations between the communist party and the Kuomintang. Standard rooms are comfortable and simply furnished, while deluxes maintain much of the '30s style.
The exception to the unremarkable standards is the Special A, designed and furnished by a frequent Cui Ming customer. It's like a museum or movie set built to display the study of a western Sinophile. Ah, the words we could write in such a room. Interestingly, a late 2005 reno is slated to redo all the rooms in this style, though it's doubtful they will feature real antiques. Given that the hotel is a protected building, however, you can be pretty certain they won't do anything to mar the atmosphere. The Cui Ming is a short walk to the BRT, but being so central to sights, shopping, and restaurants you may never leave the neighbourhood.
