Lonely Planet Review
In the heart of Beijing's business centre, the 23-year-old Jianguo has been a contender for a long time. It's aging in places, and the yesteryear design is in need of a serious refit, but the amenities are there for the business traveller, and there's a range of eating and drinking options.
As for the rooms, we found the first floor superiors the cosiest. The design and furnishings are nothing memorable (bland carpet, chintzy wallpaper, simple bed, table - the chain hotel works), but the attached patios overlooking a small garden and pond are a very pleasant touch. Business floor rooms vary in quality - we didn't think the furnishings were high-end enough to justify the price. The hotel is not ageing uniformly, so always ask to see your room before shelling out. Don't forget to bargain for a substantial discount on the rack rates. For those who need them, the hotel offers such amenities as babysitting, wireless Internet and free movie rental. Justine's, a well-regarded French restaurant, and Charlie's, a popular watering hole, are both on the premises.
