Lonely Planet Review
We like a boutique atmosphere when we pay this much for a night's sleep. Peninsula rooms unfortunately come out a little short on distinctive style, but they do include the wide range of amenities five-star accommodation should (but often doesn't) have in Beijing.
We're talking about DVD players in the room with free movie rentals, plasma TVs, bathroom TVs, ADSL, in-room fax service and good workstations. As for the room design, it won't make you swoon, but you'd certainly never be embarrassed to take someone you loved here. The style is restrained, modern, elegant even, but it's just not original. This is a shame because the hotel overall has some lovely oriental touches. The Huang Ting restaurant, for example, has a restored classical Beijing style that is as flawless as it is fetching. And of course the location. Set off Beijing's premiere shopping street and close to some major attractions, you could find yourself walking everywhere you want to go.
