Lonely Planet Review

This recently opened, authentic timber guesthouse, set on a small cobbled street, has traditional decoration and a few modern touches. Painstakingly restored by two artists whose work adorns the rooms, the guesthouse is quite simply charming.Skuteviken Guesthouse is the sort of place where you won't mind curling up in a quiet corner with a good book, occasionally looking out your window at Bergen's signature quaint timber architecture. The rooms have seemingly hand-crafted tongue and groove walls, white wicker furniture and lace cushions, complemented by modern touches like dimmer switches and slick wetroom-style bathrooms. The only drawbacks are that breakfast is not provided (but rooms have kitchens) and the main road just down the hill can be noisy at night; the sound carries in these old buildings. But any drawbacks are more than tempered by the freedom of being able to come and go as you like (you're given your own key) and the excellent location just a short walk from Bryggen and close to the water's edge.
