Lonely Planet Review
From the street, you'd never know what's hiding behind Casa Monserrat's small facade; possibly the most stunning B&B in Buenos Aires. Occupying a restored 1870 two-story home, it has only one drawback: the slightly seedy neighborhood surrounding it.
Behind the facade, you'll likely forget the neighborhood exists. Two giant black doors open onto a pretty interior garden, and handsome iron columns support overhanging, colonial-style roofs. Rooms are well lit and divinely comfortable, and they have high ceilings that give a pleasant sense of spaciousness. Some of the eight rooms have two levels, and all have functioning fireplaces for those cold winter days. Little touches like books and candles make everything feel homey. The common room, bedecked with classic furnishings and contemporary art, is a stylish combination of past and present. As far as the location is concerned, you're right near a subway stop and you're close to San Telmo. The neighborhood, with it's handsome old houses and little local eateries, has a real off-the-tourist-track feel. Just don't walk around at night.
