Lonely Planet Review
Owned by an artistic young Argentine, Casa Vaiven occupies an old converted warehouse in a non-touristy area of San Telmo. Although there are only five rooms, the communal area (complete with TV lounge, foosball and internet) is huge. Two rooms share a bath and all are straightforward yet comfortable.
Four rooms are on the 2nd floor and open onto a small hallway balcony that overlooks the warehouse-like interior. Although only one of them has a window, the communal space is so huge that you'll never feel claustrophobic. There's a fully equipped communal kitchen and a comfy TV niche. One of the best things about the place is the feeling that you're getting something the rest of the foreigners in touristy San Telmo are missing: the atmospheric side streets near the barrio (neighbourhood) of Barracas. Although it's only blocks from the heart of San Telmo, the tourists never make it here. If you're planning a lengthy stay in BA, the two apartments, both with kitchenette, are excellent alternatives to hotels. Call before arrival.
