Lonely Planet Review
V&S occupies a beautifully converted 19th-century mansion and offers touches of old and new. The curved-glass doors and the ancient iron elevator are simply stunning. And for a hostel, so is the giant-screen TV in the common room.
V&S also has the feel of a tightly run ship. Everything is kept spotless. The common room, with its rustic brick walls and homey bric-a-brac decorations, has a sort of cosy fishing lodge feel. There's also a hefty video collection for use with the big-screen TV. Bathrooms are single-shooters - one toilet, one shower. One of the dorm rooms has giant doors opening onto a small balcony overlooking Viamonte. It allows for plenty of air, but lets in the street noise as well. Sharing the same balcony is one of the hostel's best doubles, but there are newer and quieter ones in the back as well. Some of the dorm rooms have triple-tier bunks. Overall it's a mellow vibe, with a professionally-run feel, and there are plenty of activities (free salsa, tango and Spanish classes) to keep guests busy.
