Lonely Planet Review
Shack up in style and soak in the history of the 85-room Hotel Jousten, a French-neoclassic landmark that was once one of Av Corrientes' most prized buildings. Opened in 1928, it was closed and sat abandoned for decades before the NH chain restored and reopened it in 2000.
Although the building suffered from years of neglect, many of the original decorations - such as the restaurant's ornately carved pillars, Spanish tiles in the bar and the hanging iron lamps outside - still adorn the building. Former presidents Hipólito Irigoyen and Juan Perón both stayed here, and tango legend Carlos Gardel was supposedly a regular fixture in the restaurant. After restoration, the rooms are more modern and luxurious than true to the building's original style, but everything falls together with perfection. If you're gonna splash out in BA, the top-floor suites are some of the best rooms in town. They're all stylishly modern yet homely, inviting and exquisitely comfortable. The presidential suite boasts five floor-to-ceiling arched windows and a giant jacuzzi in the bathroom. The standards are as comfortable as they should be for a five-star hotel.
