Lonely Planet Review

Quotes One of the city's cleanest sleep options, it's ideal for explorers who require only a prim and proper place to lay down after a busy day of sightseeing but can't stomach the idea of slumming it in a comparably priced love motel.

There's lots to like about the Gwangjang Tourist Hotel. The whole place has a sparkling quality thanks to the friendly multi-lingual staff and the recent remodelling effort that highlights the strengths of what is most definitely a no-frills sleep option. Smartly decorated in coordinated neutral tones, standard rooms come with a double bed and just enough space to drop a couple of packs without feeling overly cramped. Groups of three or four people will probably feel more comfortable in the suite option which is equipped with the same double bed plus bedding for two on the floor. Ideally located for city exploration, the subway is two minutes away on foot while must-see areas like Jungangdong and Nampodong can be reached comfortably by anyone with a good pair of walking boots.

Author Tip

Although Choryang market - aka Texas Street - is just across the street, it's hardly worth the effort unless you've got a craving for respectably authentic Chinese food. Hong Seong Bang, one block past the Chinese gate, has crispy, tasty gun mandu (fried mandu).
