Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Here's a hotel with ocean view rooms that make men weep. And not just at the price. The evening light show illuminating nearby Gwangan Bridge is trippy, but the decidedly rectangular room layout makes it difficult to stop thinking about shoeboxes.

I've got a love-hate relationship with this hotel. Who wouldn't love the rich faux wood flooring with colour coordinated off-white wall coverings all bundled together in a spacious room? Or how about the gorgeous VIP suite, equipped with a breakfast counter that would leave Saturday morning cooking show fans drooling in their creme brule? Sadly, the hotel falls flatter than a failed souffle in a couple of areas, like the occasional wallpaper gouge far too cavernous to ignore, a sleep-inhibiting, clattering bar fridge, front desk staff who don't seem to know the area, and impossibly high rack rates. Bottom line, a delicious hotel priced beyond what it delivers.

One of the city's coolest jazz bars is a five-minute walk away. Giant Step Jazz Bar has live 30min sets Wednesday to Saturday evenings. It's located on the narrow street one block behind the beachfront road in Gwangan.
