Lonely Planet Review
The receptionist might be indifferent, preferring his newspaper to conversation, but the accommodation here is good value and an excellent choice for male travellers. As long as you can get the front office guy to give you a key, that is…
This centrally located hotel, close to Al-Shouhada Square and just a couple of blocks from the Citadel and Old City, is certainly close to the action. The reasonably clean rooms are fitted out well for this price with fridge, air-conditioning and fan, and satellite TV. There are somewhat alarming tiger skin bed covers (perhaps befitting this big bachelor pad), but they'll at least take your mind off the shabby private bathrooms. The hotel mainly attracts a male Middle Eastern clientele who enjoy sitting in the low-ceilinged mezzanine living room (watch your head!) smoking cigarettes and drinking Turkish coffee and watching the action on the street below. So while male travellers might like the chance to practice their Arabic, solo women might like to stay somewhere else.

Author Tip
Locals come to this bustling shopping area for everything from electronics to car parts, shoes to sweets, so the street life here and in the surrounding streets is lively. The Old City is just a ten minute walk away and there's an excellent shawarma stand and juice shop on the corner.
