Address: 6 dovecot rd, Corstorphine , Edinburgh EH12 7LE, United kingdom Show on map
Dovecot House is a delightful B&B set in a Victorian garden villa in the posh western suburb of Corstorphine, seemingly a million miles from the traffic, noise and crowds of the city centre (although in reality, Princes St is only a 10-minute bus ride away). The house, which dates from 1871, has been beautifully restored, retaining period features such as wood panelling, window shutters, panelled doors and corniced ceilings. But the decor is anything but Victorian - instead, it is beautifully light, clean and modern, blending shades of oatmeal, brown and white with stylish contemporary furniture in oak, beech and pine. There's a single room, two double rooms and a twin/family room consisting of a double and a single bed. Only the double rooms have en suite bathrooms, decked out with fluffy bathrobes and fresh flowers. The Dovecot is a good choice if you have a car - there is secure off-street parking, and the location means you don't have to drive into the city centre. It is also ideally located for visiting Edinburgh Zoo, Murrayfield rugby stadium or the Royal Highland Show at Ingliston.

Put on your walking shoes, and hike to the top of wooded Corstorphine Hill, behind Edinburgh Zoo; at the top you can climb the Scott Tower (open 14:00 to 16:00 every second Sunday, May to September) for a panoramic view of the city.
The house takes its name from the 16th-century dovecot next door, which was once used to breed pigeons for the dinner table at Corstorphine Castle.
