About San Miguel (El Salvador)

Bathed in sunlight, San Miguel Cathedral dates from the 18th century (Photographer: Charlotte Hindle)

Founded in 1530, San Miguel is one of El Salvador's largest cities and a major transport hub. Between the colonial streets lie central plazas, parks - even though the environment chokes on its own smog - and a lively market which spills out onto the streets until dusk, when everything shuts down.
