Renting one of Jack's Apartments (B&B if you want) is the perfect way to feel at home in one of the medina's best locations. Fling open the French doors and take in that fantastic seaview.

Jack Oswald is something of an Essaouira legend. His kiosk on Pl Moulay Hassan has been the town's unofficial tourist office for years and he's slowly accumulated an impressive portfolio of apartments and houses. Most of them, including our favourites 7 and 9, have photogenic views over the ramparts. Jack is Swiss so you won't find any wonky taps or shabby furnishings here. Only simple, good taste in the selection of Berber blankets, rattan and wooden furnishings, colourful rugs, throws, and cool tiled floors. Apartment 9 with its rough stone arches and light, bright interior is the largest (sleeping eight), but there are also four studios (up to three people) and four two-bedroom apartments. An impressive breakfast is also on offer, delivered to your doorstep.
