This cheap and cheerful hostel is in the process of being completely refurbished. It's a great place to meet both fellow backpackers and the language students, who live here for several months each summer. Book in advance though - it's often packed.

This hostel is perched on the 3rd floor of a handsome old building almost directly opposite the train station. There's a bright coffee shop-cum-bar-cum-reception area, and a self-catering kitchen. The friendly staff host all-you-can-eat spaghetti nights free on Saturdays, and plans are afoot for discos and film nights too. Breakfast is complimentary - just cereal, tea and coffee, with a full buffet at conference times. The dorms and rooms are bright and well-furnished, with plenty of extras such as fridges, TVs, towels and bedding included in the price. The beds in the dorms are rather squeezed together though, so bring earplugs in case your neighbour turns out to be a snorer. As the hostel doubles as a language school, it offers a free day's German classes for every guest. The reception staff can help book a plethora of tours or transport.
