Lonely Planet Review

Quotes The attractive and mid-sized Arty Inn is near the action, but in a quieter neighbourhood south-east of Tenjin station. Reception staff are ufailingly helpful. Rooms are large, well-appointed and smartly decorated.

This well-managed and charmingly named hotel is a step up from its efficient business counterparts. Rooms, bathrooms and beds are larger than average, and smartly decorated too. Of the hotel's 79 rooms, 19 are doubles, and all are equipped with free Internet hook-up. The English-speaking staff are extremely friendly and attentive. The hotel is conveniently located along a canal that branches off from the Naka-gawa. The immediate area is low-key, but it's just minutes on foot to Tenjin's department stores and underground shopping complex, as well as several neighbourhood parks.

Author Tip

You're a few blocks away from Tenjin Chuo-koen, a small park which houses two classic century-old Western-style buildings. Pop into the adjacent Akarenga Cultural Centre for a coffee overlooking the river, before going underground at Chikagai shopping complex, a massive subterranean arcade with information counters staffed by ladies in matching lace hats.
