Lonely Planet Review

Quotes This smart and simple business hotel is a good budget choice, clean and quiet, even with busy Oyafuko-dori around the corner.

Even though the Etwas sits in the heart of Tenjin's nightlife and club scene, the rooms are surprisingly quiet. But step out the door and you're in the thick of the action. Typical of business hotels, the rooms are quite small, but spotless and modern, with comfortable beds and free Internet hook-up. The lobby is on the 2nd floor, and doubles as the breakfast buffet corner. Most of the staff speak decent English, and they'll be happy to draw maps to surrounding attractions. The hotel often fills up on weekends with both Japanese and foreign expats.

Author Tip

You're in the heart of Fukuoka's thriving night-life, so live it up. Start at nearby Off-Broadway to get your bearings and a cold one, then head around the corner to the Juke Joint, a cosy dive where you pick the music, while sipping a cocktail and feasting on a hearty bowl of New Orleans-style seafood gumbo.
