Lonely Planet Review
A recently renovated family run guest-house in the beautiful old quarter of Fountainhas, with an ambience demonstrative of the no-fuss refurbished colonial elegance that the area is famous for.
Afonso looks exactly like guest houses are supposed to look in the beautiful Latin quarter, but it's more affordable than its neighbours in all their heritage hype. Mr Afonso is justifiably house-proud. Rooms and the building itself have recently been refurbished and the outcome is pleasing. The staircase is simple but elegant and the mosaic tiled rooftop terrace is the perfect place to down a late afternoon drink or an early morning chai. Rooms are spacious and have attached bathrooms with hot water. There is nothing remarkable about the character of the rooms themselves, but they are pleasant and airy with wide windows that open onto a quiet street of Fountainhas, with the whitewashed Chapel of St Sebastian a stone's throw away.
