A stand-out gem among a blur of options in Baga. This is an ideal base for someone who wants to dip into the crowded culture of Baga but be able to retreat somewhere that has maintained its dignity in a fast-changing world.
The exterior of the Cavala seaside resort is in the style of an English manor, with greenery engulfing all but the windows. Wicker chairs, sunbeds and coffee tables have been well chosen and usefully placed to make communal sitting areas. Cavala creates a friendly laid-back atmosphere at the Banana Republic across the road; the easy party atmosphere created over drinks around the pool is engaging without being overwhelming. Jazz, swing and retro sounds set the tempo and distinguish it from its frantic Baga brothers. Given that rooms were built at different times, they vary in style and character, but all are clean and cared for. The sight and soul of Cavala's elegant restaurant is one reason people keep coming back. Hats off to Cavala for proving that elegant hotels can be easy-going.
