Lonely Planet Review

Some 3km (1.9mi) from the town centre at Miramar is Panaji's luxury choice, a relaxed hotel with spacious, soothingly decorated rooms. The swimming pool overlooking the Mandovi River is a delight as is the trendy new Waterfront Terrace & Bar, the excellent health club, and the squash and tennis courts.

The Goa Marriot Resort is unquestionably one of the best places to stay in Goa. It is nicely laid out from the word go, with the five-star fantasy beginning with the high rooftops and the stone mosaic floor of the foyer. The wall-free open air plan allows a panoramic view out to the ocean. The pool and garden area isn't enormous, but it is laid out to be enticing with a view over the meeting point of the Mandovi River and the Arabian sea. The pool area can get busy, but there's still an enormously exclusive feel to things. There is also good access to Mirimar Beach and this location offers the best view of party boats cruising past every night.

Author Tip

Jump in a bus and head out for a day of exploring in Old Goa. Lunch in a local restaurant in Panjim and do some bargain hunting or take a cruise along the Mandovi river. Alternatively, you could always stay at home and wine and dine at the Waterfront Terrace and Bar.
