Lonely Planet Review

From the moment you walk into the vast open lobby, with its Chinese-style pillars and exposed roof, almost everything you look at in the Hilton feels right. Yes, it's a luxurious beachside resort but from the stunning communal spaces to the plush, super-stylish rooms, you will always know you're in China. The designers have really hit the mark and even several days into your stay you'll be appreciating the little things. It might be the obvious - like the wonderfully architectural atriums, the expansive 3000 sq m pool and the huge circular love tubs - or finer details such as the subtly concealed Bose sound systems, handy beach bags and attractive use of traditional materials in the furniture and decor. The hotel's five bars and restaurants are equally beautiful (if a bit pricey) and the spa wonderfully kitted out. Sound perfect? Unfortunately, not yet. The Hilton only opened in December 2005 and its newness shows in the service. While the staff are undoubtedly eager to please and generally very pleasant, their service remains far from what you might expect from a five-star resort.
