Lonely Planet Review
If you're a stickler for service, and getting your Pina Colada in good time is more important than sleeping in the most stylish rooms, then the Marriott might be for you. Staff here are about the best trained of any in the big resorts, compensating for the relatively uninspiring rooms and hotel buildings themselves, which are reminiscent of government ministries.
The cheaper rooms, in particular, could be anywhere on earth, being both smallish and oh-so-familiar in design - walk-in, turn left/right for the bathroom. The Chinese touches feel a bit tacked on. Still, unless you plan on spending your time in the room, this shouldn't be a huge issue. The public spaces are quite attractive, with the usual ocean-sized pool opening directly onto the beach. You could happily laze around here for days, knowing that the cocktail waiter won't keep you waiting long for a top-up. And reports are that the eateries are also pretty good, particularly the Vietnamese Indochine restaurant.

Author Tip
Not surprisingly, the resort offers the full range of seaside activities. There's also a spa if you want some pampering, and two golf courses nearby. Elsewhere, wander the beach and far off to the east you might find some local food stalls; otherwise dining options are limited to the other resorts. Better, though, is to take a taxi into Sanya's Number One Market for a real Chinese eating experience.
