Lonely Planet Review
In arguably the best position on Dadonghai beach, the South China has been entertaining visitors since 1992. And while it's not quite as sharp as it was when Jiang Zemin stayed back in 1993, it is a fair bit cheaper.
And it's not hard to see why, as one of the earliest hotels in an undeniably attractive beachside setting, this place did a lot of government business. Jiang (who stayed in the 'Deluxe Villa') and all manner of lesser cadres line the walls in typically communist-style photo formations. The rooms themselves are aging but this is not too dramatic considering the regularly discounted rates. There are clunky old desktop computers in every room with Internet access available for a reasonable hourly rate. The rooms facing the sea have attractive views onto coconut palms, pool, tennis court and the beach.

Author Tip
Chilling out on the beach is the main activity here. This hotel also has a relationship with the Nantian Hot Spring Resort with free buses running there four times a day. Lolling about in the 40 or so hot springs - all somehow different - as the afternoon turns into evening is a perfectly respectable Chinese holiday pastime; a fine way to get in tune with the local culture.
