Lonely Planet Review

With broadband Internet connections in the attractively designed rooms, the Canadian offers the business traveller or just anyone who wants a computer in their room a good reason to stay. The prices, too, make plenty of sense no matter how tech-savvy you are.

The larger rooms actually come with broadband-connected desktop computers and DVD players, but even without such extras these rooms are undoubtedly the pick of the bunch. Those at the front are bright and windows look over Ð Pham Ngu Lao to 23/9 Park. The downside is the street noise, which can be well and truly loud enough to annoy light sleepers. Rooms at the back are darker, but also quieter. The hotel has a cool, crisp (Canadian?) look to it and is attractive in a pale blue kind of way. The smaller rooms are tiny and once you've dropped your bags there's no room to move. The lift, however, is a definite positive as you will be spared the stairs.

Author Tip

Once you've finished catching up on all your email, get up early and walk up to Cong Vien Van Hoa Park where you'll see locals starting the day practising the art of thai cuc quyen (slow-motion shadow boxing). In the evenings, the Sahara Music Cafe is near to the hotel and serves decent food to mostly good music.
