Lonely Planet Review

The location near the airport and reliable business services make the Novotel a popular choice among business travellers. But this is not your average boring business hotel - it has a tasteful, classy feel well beyond its price- range.

The whole hotel is better than you might expect from this chain, and the newly installed 'orchid club' rooms are the pinnacle of the experience. Ostensibly for business travellers, with their broadband Internet connections and desks, these large, modish rooms would also keep honeymooners happy. The Asian silks, large bathtub and window from the bathroom into the bedroom are all very agreeable, and when you consider that your money also buys free cocktails, daily laundry, airport transfers and (best of all) a one-hour massage (if you stay two nights), the money is well spent. Normal rooms are still quite spacious, though not nearly as interesting. The main downsides are the location, which discourages exploration, the tiny reception that can get overrun at busy times, and that the pool is off limits when there's a function - which is often. Still, very good value for what it is.

Author Tip

Most sights are closer to the city centre, though the location is quite handy for getting out to the Cu Chi Tunnels and Tay Ninh. When heading into central Saigon, stop at the Binh Soup Shop. After a lunch of tasty noodle soup, ask them to take you upstairs to the room that served as the Viet Cong headquarters during the war.
