Lonely Planet Review
The front doors of the Mandarin Oriental give way to smooth five-star elegance. Room styles aren't quite up to the expectations raised in the lobby, but the 'Harbour View' rooms have an obvious characteristic with which to make amends, and many of these come with private balconies.
This place is proof that you shouldn't judge Hong Kong hotels by their exteriors. It looks like a dated condominium, which was probably all the vogue when it was first built. Inside, it's very distinguished, with Asian antiques catching your eyes almost everywhere you look. In the pillar-surrounded Roman pool you can dunk your cares away, while those with a sweet tooth should visit the delectable cake shop on the ground floor (on the Chater Rd side of the building). Also on the ground floor is the Captain's Bar, a good place for a martini. On the 25th floor, Vong restaurant has spectacular French-Asian food for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.
