Lonely Planet Review

Quotes Hotel Park II outshines its sibling around the corner with great-value rooms plus knockout views. The paint was still wet when we visited and we're afraid that once the paint is well and truly dry the prices might creep up - surely such good value can't last!

Hotel Park offers cheery yellow rooms, newly tiled and decorated, and gleaming white sheets and linen. A nice touch is the chairs upholstered with kilims (woven rugs). The best rooms are those at the front. Upstairs there's a kooky glass-brick bar/seating area and above that a terrace with impressive views over Aya Sofya, the Blue Mosque and the Sea of Marmara. The rooms are fabulous, but the decor in the rest of the place needs a bit more work. The foyer/TV room has downlight overload (so now we know the cause of Istanbul's blackouts!), while the empty bar upstairs isn't the kind of place you'd like to hang out in unless you were paid. Nevermind, we're sure things will get moving around here.

How To Get There

Atatürk Airport (13 miles / 20 km-20 minutes) After leaving the airport, follow signs to highway E-100 Pass Ataköy,Incirli and Merter into Topkapi Connect onto Vatan Caddesi and stay right when the road divides At the roundabout, take direction of Yenikapi, Kumkapi then Sultanahmet On the left see the traffic lights and railway bridge and the arrow to Sultanahmet Turn to the left under the bridge and keep to drive straight up to Four Seasons Hotel. Hotel Park is right across to Four Seasons Hotel. Another alternative to reach to the hotel is the subway and tram connection. Take a subway at the airport, get off in Zeytinburnu. The tram stop is near the subway station. Take a tram and get off in Sultanahmet. Walk down to Hagia Sophia square and cross the square, turn to the right and then to the left. Hotel Park is down there around the right corner.

Author Tip

The better Sultanahmet eateries are on or just off Divan Yolu, so take a pre-supper scenic walk through Sultanahmet Parki. One of the best here is long-timer Rumeli, dishing up Turkish eats with Mediterranean influence in lovely rustic surrounds. Save dessert for Çigdem Pastanesi though, this other Sultanahmet long-timer has been wooing customers for decades with its magnificent baklava.
