Sultan's Inn is in a pleasant, quiet neighbourhood away from the hullabaloo of Sultanahmet, but still within walking distance of all the sights. It's a pleasant option, though with seemingly little to write home about until you see the terrace…

The Sultan's treasure here is the simply stunning 360° views from the rooftop terrace. You can't see Aya Sofya, but you can see the Blue Mosque and wonderful views down Kumkapi way. Ooo la la. There's even a table built high up on what we'll dub the 'stork platform' to get even better views. The rooms are a fairly tight squeeze, but pleasantly decorated with four-post beds, wooden furniture, and ochre feature walls. Bathrooms are pocket-sized, but would you really want to spend time in there with that piped music? (It can be switched off thankfully). Nonsmoking rooms are available too. Service is friendly, though a bit slap-dash; we had to wait 15 minutes to be shown around while the staff member chatted on the phone to a mate.
