Backpacker - Basic and Party
Lonely Planet Review
If you're here to party, this basic backpackers is right in the touristy heart of the action. In fact the streetside cafe/bar is the action most nights. The accommodation itself is nothing special, but if you need a bed within staggering distance from the busy cafe/bar, Sultan is for you.
Sultan's busy cafe spills out onto the street, and the streetside tables and chairs are prime real estate for people-watching. There's also a large multi-levelled rooftop terrace with views over the Bosphorus and back to Sultanahmet. One table up here is set out on its own weeny terrace - without walls, so don't sit here if you've had a few. All rooms are clean enough, though the carpets are pretty worn in spots. The bathrooms are well maintained with recent retiling, though some have scungy ceilings. The singles are pleasant enough. The dorms range from six to 16 beds. The latter you'll find overpriced unless you'd like sleeping in a sardine can. Sultan's looks like it's in a constant state of after-party chaos (butts in plants, empties left around). Staff have attitude.

Author Tip
You're right in backpacker central here with everything you could need a few steps from your doorstep, but make sure you get over to sample Beyoglu's thriving bar scene. If you like Sultan's cafe/bar you'll love Madrid, Queen and James Joyce Irish Pub. Go.
