Lonely Planet Review
No expense has been spared on this huge modern day palace, from the epic Malla-style architecture to the stunning collection of intimate chaityas (mini-stupas) in the lobby. It's actually just outside Kathmandu, on the road to Bodhnath.
As you'd expect, the Hyatt is very tastefully decorated in a Newari style, with lots of carved dark-wood furniture, stamped oil bricks and grey slate fountains. Make sure you ask for a room with views over the Tibetan-style Bodhnath Stupa. Club rooms cost only a little extra and get you free afternoon cocktails and canapés, amongst other perks. If you need a day off from all that temple touring, the outdoor swimming pool is one of the best in the valley. For this level of comfort you won't find any better place in Kathmandu. Take the helicopter ride from the hotel helipad direct to Everest Base Camp and pray your lungs don't explode when you step off the chopper at 5300m (17388ft).
