Lonely Planet Review

The International Guest House, west from Thamel in a residential area known as Kaldhara, is a modern Newari-style hotel that bridges the gap nicely between the big hotels and budget guesthouses. Nice decor, good location and lovely garden make it great mid-range value.

Author Tip

The Swayambhunath (or 'Monkey') Temple is a 20-minute walk west from the hotel, on the far side of the Vishnumati River. A two-minute walk east takes you to the heart of the Thamel shopfest, where you can pick up bargain priced books, CDs, trekking gear, clothes and crafts.
