Lonely Planet Review
If you need to escape Kathmandu for a day, this peaceful mid-range retreat just downhill from the famous sleeping Vishnu image of Budhanilkantha, fits the bill nicely. There's lots of good hiking, village life and, shhhh... plenty of peace and quiet.
The modern and Mediterranean villa-style rooms are set in a two-hectare garden, and most come with some sort of balcony. Some even come with winter fireplaces. The excellent standard rooms are as good as the deluxe, so save yourself some money and blow it on an Ayurvedic massage or drinks by the pool. The resort feel comes from the health club, spa (wraps, scrubs and facials) plus there's a sauna, outdoor pool area and private cinema hall. If for some bizarre reason you feel guilty over all that pampering, skip the buffet lunch and feed your karma instead in the meditation room. The hotel is run by the family that runs the Kathmandu Guest House and you can often get free transport up to the hotel in their shuttle minibus.
