Lonely Planet Review
For those in the know, the relaxed, stylish Dutch-run Summit Hotel is a firm favourite and a great alternative to staying in noisy Kathmandu. Carved wood columns and cool terracotta tiles set off the lush gardens perfectly, creating a relaxing and romantic option.
The hotel tops a hillock in the Kopundol area of Patan. It's well away from the bustle of Kathmandu but remains only a 15-minute taxi ride from the centre, plus it's close to the equally impressive nearby sights in Patan. The Garden Wing rooms are probably the best value, with modern bathrooms and lovely sitting areas overlooking the lush garden. Guests have been known to fight over the coveted corner Himalayan View rooms, with sweeping views across the river to Kathmandu and the Himalaya behind. The budget rooms are much cheaper but aren't really up to much - you'll get better budget value in central Kathmandu. You can cool off in the swimming pool during the sweaty summer, or use the winter chill as an excuse to cosy up to the open fireplace with that special someone. There's a pleasant bar and the garden restaurant turns out superb food; the Friday night barbeques are a particular treat.
