Lonely Planet Review

The Last Resort sits in a beautiful spot on a ridge above the Bhote Kosi river, 101km (61mi) from Kathmandu and just 12km (7.5mi) from the Tibet border. Access is by suspension bridge across the river, and it's here that Nepal's only bungy jump is set up.

Accommodation at the resort is in comfortable standard (four-person) or deluxe (two-person) safari tents, dotted around lovely landscaped grounds, with the focus being the soaring stone-and-slate dining hall and Instant Karma bar. Luxury comes in the form of gas-heated slate showers, a plunge pool and sauna, with massages and yoga often available. The cost of accommodation includes meals and transport to and from Kathmandu. Most people are drawn to Asia's highest bungy jump (you can hear the screams echoing around the valley), plus there's also canyoning, rafting on the Bhote Kosi, trekking, mountain biking and rock climbing, with a range of packages that combine any or all of the above activities. For details of current packages pop into the Kathmandu office, near the Kathmandu Guest House in Thamel.

How to Get There

The Last Resort is located 12 km from the Tibetan Border, a 3 hour ride from Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu the best thing to do is to make you way to Thamel, the tourist area. The Last Resort Sales Office is located next to the Kathmandu Guesthouse, the most famous in Thamel. The sales staff can answer all you questions, take your booking and make the necessary transport arrangements. In season The Last Resort bus leaves regularly from Thamel at 6 am in the morning and returns from the resort at around 3 pm. If there is no private bus running, the sales staff can arrange a private car for you or book you a seat on the local express bus.
By own transport take the Arniko Highway to the Tibetan Border. Coming from Tibet you can arrange a taxi or get on a local bus at the border and be dropped off at the resort. There are many signboards along the road and the resort entrance is spectacular enough to be noticed: a 160 m high suspension bridge with people bungying off it.

Author Tip

The huge 160m (525ft) bungy jump is a must-do. Or try the pendulum-style Tarzan swing, with eight seconds of free fall. A jump is a bit cheaper if you are staying at the resort.
