Visit Ngarchelong, at Babeldaob's northernmost point, with its rows of four-foot-high basalt monoliths. Their origin and purpose is unknown, but according to one legend the gods put them there to support a bai that held thousands of people. Many of Babeldaob's hillsides were once elaborately terraced into steps and pyramids, and some terraces can still be seen. There are also some baffling stone faces, similar to Easter Island's.
