Lonely Planet Review

This is a relatively clean, popular and well-run place, albeit cramped with windowless rooms. What it lacks in atmosphere it makes up for with an excellent location, a great rooftop bar, nightly movies, TV and cooking facilities.

Fluoro lighting? Tick. Informative notice board? Tick. Tangle of rooms? Tick. Internet? Tick. Ticks? It looks clean enough. All you'd expect at a backpacker's inn is here, as the name suggests. Some nice touches include the friendly folk behind the desk and the decent communal areas. The rooftop bar is a fine place to recharge, as is the air-con lounge where movies are shown. There are also some welcome services like photo downloading and cheap tours of KL's surrounds (elephant reserves and fireflies). Rooms are boxy but clean - home away from home it ain't, but it's a good base from which to share traveller's tips and plan your next move. If you're partial to paranoia, perhaps don't read the 'news corner' clippings near the reception, which expose KL's underbelly of vice and racketeering.

How to Get There

Centrally located in China Town.

1) Arriving by bus to Puduraya Bus Station, ask for the direction of Chinatown, >< 10 min walk, pass Ancasa Hotel and Nando's and turn left into Jalan Sultan and the Hostel is right next to the Swiss Inn Hotel, above the King's Cafe.

2) Arriving by air to KLIA, take the bus or KLIA Express Train to Sentral Station
2A)At Sentral Station take the Rapid KL/Putra Line LRT to Pasar Seni Station ( one station away @ RM 1 ) look out for Starlight Hotel, >< 10 walk, pass UO Superstore, Mandrin Hotel and the Chinatown Night Market Entrance, we're futher up.

3) Arriving by air to LCCT, try to take the Star Shuttle bus which brings you directly to Puduraya and continue with no 1, if you take the Sky Bus ( Red ) or Airbus (Yellow ) to Sentral Station, continue with 2A

Note: There's a hostel a few doors away which has A FEW SIGNAGES and one of it is made to look similar to ours, so please make sure you don't end up at the wrong hostel

Author Tip

Every evening, Jl Hang Lekir (just north of the hostel) is a good strip to pick up some durian (there are even durian fridge magnets for those that can't stomach the real thing), as well as a feast of Chinese food at a street side table.
