Lonely Planet Review
Covered in tropical climbers and sporting a pleasant light-filled cafe, the (reasonably) classy Camellia is a grand bargain. In addition to the quiet twins and doubles, there is also an HI youth hostel in a separate building.
The private rooms, central location and organised travel service here are the highlights. The Camellia is better managed and more attuned to foreign travellers' needs than any other midrange hotel in Kunmíng. Don't expect any miracles from the rooms, however, aside from dependable cleanliness and the ever-popular free buffet breakfast downstairs. Backpackers are also catered for at the adjacent HI youth hostel, though this is not the best dorm accommodation in town. The eight-person rooms are tiny, the bunks don't have mattresses and the hang-out area is functional at best. Breakfast also costs extra for for hostel residents, and Internet use is somewhat expensive. The Camellia provides bicycle hire, luggage and valuables storage, laundry service and has a great local restaurant.
