Lonely Planet Review
This old dinosaur takes you back to the days when the fuwuyuan (floor attendant) would come barging into your room at six in the morning to mop the floors and change your kai shui(boiled water), regardless of whether you were sound asleep or doing t'ai chi in the buff.
Thankfully, the staff here no longer do that, though the salmon-coloured tile floors and antique hot-water thermoses may bring back memories to anyone who visited China before the year 2000. The practical location next to the train and bus stations gives the Kunhu an edge when it comes to convenience, though the overall atmosphere is not quite as nice as other budget choices. Nevertheless, the rooms and shared bathrooms are clean, and it is definitely an essential Chinese hotel experience. There are also cheap twins with private bathrooms here.
