Lonely Planet Review
Conference and interpretation facilities make this 1950s edifice a good bet for business travellers. And with a bar, disco, karaoke hall, tennis court and even a bowling alley on-site you may never want to leave.
The lobby here is a sparkling affair, though rooms have the usual, state-run hotel atmosphere about them: bird-and-flower paintings provide the only touches of colour in the otherwise simple and subdued decor. Despite dim lighting in the hallways, the Kunming Hotel is continuously renovated and is a dependable choice if your primary goal is comfort (satellite TV available). There are also several high-end restaurants, including Korean and Cháozhou (the coastal region in eastern Guangdong; light, flavourful cuisine with an abundant use of vegetables) that enjoy good reputations. Oddly, rooms come with one piece of complimentary fruit, but unlike other high-end hotels, no service fee is charged.
