Lonely Planet Review
Though the Mingdu has little hanging on the walls, it's nevertheless an appealing choice for those who want something a step above the usual budget accommodation. Note that minimal English is spoken here.
Rooms have an attractive slate-like entranceway, which sets off the standard mahogany furniture. This is a refreshingly new hotel, as evidenced in the fact that there's a separate shower instead of the usual old, worn-out bathtub. However, in addition to the potential communication problems for non-Chinese speakers, the hotel's location is not that ideal - it's just not close to anywhere that most travellers will want to go. Nevertheless, if it's affordable comfort you're after, the Mingdu is certainly worth considering.
