Lonely Planet Review

Quotes This sophisticated Barranco guesthouse goes yards beyond the competition in service and style, with boldly painted walls and quality rooms. Its artistic flair is perfect for both the neighbourhood and the clientele.

Tired of low-rent hostels where the environs always look even more grungy than you do? Then it's time to escape to the inviting Domeyer Hostel, a well-kept, gay-friendly guesthouse on a side street in Barranco. It's only a few blocks from the heart of Barranco's nightlife, but unlike other backpacker haunts in the neighbourhood, here you can rest peacefully after hours. All of the rooms are alive with colour, from the fetching linens on the beds to the colored Peruvian tiles on the floors and local artwork splashed on the walls. There's a guest kitchen and barbecue area, as well a small bar and lounge. Rates include free Internet access and continental breakfast; discounts are typically available Sunday to Wednesday nights. Airport pick-ups can be arranged.

Author Tip

On Friday and Saturday nights, amble over to Barranco's municipal park and join the throngs of revellers at cafés and nightclubs where bands and DJs play everything from punk to Latin techno to traditional folk music. It's a mobbed scene, especially along Avenidas Grau and San Pedro de Osma.
