Lonely Planet Review

Quotes The Hostal Torreblanca has a relaxing location near clifftop gardens that overlook the Pacific Ocean. While its modern, carpeted rooms tend toward the generic, they're enlivened by Peruvian artwork. All are spotlessly clean and have cable TV, phones, minifridges and private bathrooms with 24hr hot water. Conveniently, electricity converters and adapters are available upon request. The downsides of this small hotel are the often harried and aloof staff, who can't be counted on to help in a pinch; and its remote location, almost a mile west of the main strip in Miraflores. The steakhouse next door has a respectable menu of Peruvian and international dishes if you're too jet-lagged to venture out. Rates include continental breakfast and a complimentary welcome cocktail of a pisco sour. Airport transfers can be arranged.

Author Tip

A short walk from the guesthouse toward the ocean is El Señorio del Sulco, one of Lima's most respected restaurants. It's owned by Isabel Alvarez, a Peruvian food writer and gourmand. The menu does inventive takes on traditional dishes, especially seafood. As it's perennially popular, call ahead for reservations.
