Lonely Planet Review

Quotes This lovely little hotel is just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street and just seconds away from Tony and Cherie Blair's new pad in Connaught Square. Whether or not that's a good thing is up to you to decide, but at least you can take pleasure knowing that you're paying peanuts for staying in a millionaire's postcode.

You certainly get value for money at the Parkwood. There aren't many places in London that offer such generous-sized rooms for such generous prices. The recently refurbished rooms are pretty in pink with candy-striped wallpaper, potted plants and Laura Ashley prints. All the bedrooms, bar two, are en suite, although the bathrooms seem to have escaped the renovation process and could do with being spruced up.

Author Tip

Join in the Sunday sing-a-long at The Duke of Kendal pub on Connaught Street. Piano player June and her band of usual suspects sing old show tunes with such gusto it'll make you wish you were born 40 years earlier.

Curious Fact

Whether you find it spooky or simply enticing, the Parkwood Hotel is just a hangman's noose away from where the King's gallows stood between 1196 and 1783.
