Lonely Planet Review
Now here's something special. There are many things to recommend about this place, but its internal courtyard is quite possibly Madrid's finest - with the best of Andalusian tilework, a fountain, a spectacular glass ceiling and stunning Islamic decoration all surrounded on four sides by an open balcony.
The courtyard's cushions are the ultimate backpacker's indulgence in Madrid, but if you can't snaffle a cushion - or if the sound of the tinkling fountain is too chilled for your liking - head for the cool bar and even cooler basement where there's another bar, a stage for live bands and flamenco, and computers offering free Internet built into the original stone wall. This place is not for those who came to Madrid for a rest - what were you thinking? If the on-site socialising possibilities aren't enough, the young staff know where to find Madrid's coolest (and cheapest) nightspots and may even accompany you. As far as dormitories go, the rooms are good - six to 12-bed rooms which are new and super-clean. The bathrooms (some inside the rooms, some outside) are similarly excellent. But this is not a place where you'll spend much time in your room.
