Lonely Planet Review
The rooms at this well-run hostal (cheap hotel) are simple, even a little bare in decoration, and are saved only from anonymity by the occasional rustic touch and the air-con and heating in every room; there are also safety boxes, TVs and decent bathrooms. But better things lie in store if you're willing to take a long-term view.
The owner also rents out excellent apartments which range in size from 33 to 130 sq m and are a wonderful investment if you plan to stay for a while - the nightly rate is expensive, but the monthly rate works out cheaper than most hostels in Madrid. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen (including fridge, cooking appliances, washing machine and microwave) and every apartment has its own sitting area, bathroom and, in the case of the larger ones, an expansive terrace with views over central Madrid. If the hostel rooms are spare, a lot more thought and money has gone into the apartments where tastefully modern wrought-iron furniture and attractive colour schemes mix with period pieces from an older, more classic style. Most of the apartments also have plenty of light and would be ideal for a family. This is a rare chance to feel at home.
