Lonely Planet review

A coaching inn dating back to 1700, but lacking any of its characteristic qualities, the Millstone is an old mans' boozer complete with locals propped up by the bar. Short on interior design, but slap bang in the centre of town, its cheap beds will be most welcome come closing time.

Forget any fancy ideas you might have about fluffy towels, coordinating colour schemes or old-world atmosphere, the Millstone is an old-time, old-style kinda place where B&B means literally that. You'll get a bed and a hangover-cure fry-up, but don't go expecting any extravagant extras - or even a window in the breakfast room. Although most of the rooms are a decent size, the insipid decor hasn't changed in decades and the bathrooms are tiny. However, if you've got to be within stumbling distance of every pub and club in town and couldn't care less what your room looks like you'll be hard pressed to do better. It's cheap, it's clean and it's central; stay out late and you'll be just fine.
