Lonely Planet Review

At Dar Attajmil, Lucrezia Mutti combines sleek Milanese style with warm natural materials and soft, simple design. She has also worked hard to nurture a cultural atmosphere at the riad (town house) where you can undertake cookery, calligraphy, embroidery and even yoga classes.

This is a great place to start for solo women travellers and indeed anyone else who enjoys getting stuck into the life of a place. The highlight of Dar Attajmil, apart from the four stylish rooms, is the classes on offer that give visitors a chance to interact with local craftsmen and understand more of Moroccan culture. The riad also has a fantastic hammam (bathhouse) offering a professional range of treatments using sought-after Argan oil products. All this cultural activity creates an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere. The tone is elegant but also earthy and organic; the predominant colours based on rust red, ochre and mustard yellow serve as an appropriate background for the organic shapes of local artist Michel Vu's paintings. Lucrezia herself is a gracious and energetic hostess and has wonderful plans for the future so watch this space.

Author Tip

You simply must try one of the classes at Dar Attajmil. They are great fun and get you out of the house and working with local Moroccan craftsmen and women. If your embroidery is not turning out like the latest Galliano collection then pop down the road to maestro Toufik at Beldi and purchase one of his exquisite crushed velvet jackets.
