Lonely Planet Review
One of a number of new budget riads (town houses) offering cheap and cheerful accommodation in the once-exclusive areas of the medina, Riad Julia rubs shoulders with some fine neighbours, but manages to hold its own with its colourful decor, welcome plunge pool and pretty roof terrace.
Riad Julia is run by the courteous, English-speaking Omar, who has brought his own inimitable Moroccan style to its seven bedrooms. Each is decorated in bold primary colours from the cinnamon-chic of 'Pacha' to forest green 'Mouharij' and blood-red 'Amir'. The rooms around the first-floor gallery are preferable as they are lighter, benefit from air-con and are removed from the pretty, but close, patio. The other big plus at Riad Julia is the green-tiled plunge pool, one of the few in a budget-range riad in the medina. The terrace is also very appealing with a brown Berber tent, wrought-iron dining table and communal barbeque - perfect for those balmy desert nights.
